News: A Department of Food for Every City

Research from New York based University at Buffalo has shown a lack of engagement with food policy by local government in the US. They found that few of the planning department officials they surveyed cited food as a key priority in their work. Academics from the University say this is leading to food access and health problems for local consumers as well as a lack of support for local farmers. They would like to see a greater priority given to food systems in local government, calling for food policy councils, like those already operating in Washington and Baltimore, in every city.
